Twenty-five years ago this month, the Berlin Wall came down. It was a day to remember then and it is certainly something to think back upon now. Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel delivered a 20-minute speech focused on the mix of triumph and tragedy that this anniversary marks.
You might be wondering how the fall of the Berlin Wall could help your marriage. Well, anniversaries mark all sorts of occasions, but when it comes to getting the love you want, you really need to stay focused on your marriage.
All married couples know that the “honeymoon” phase soon fades, but there is no reason the two of you can’t share a long and happy life together filled with anticipation, excitement, and love. So, if you want to keep your marriage fresh, you might want to keep these things in mind:
- Always let your spouse know how much you appreciate him or her. Over the course of a long marriage, those eagerly anticipated reunions – such as those after a long day at work – often become routine. Relationships must constantly move forward, and if they don’t, they will die. Share your feelings of appreciation with each other as much as possible.
- Always say thank you, even for the little things. Stop playing “tit-for-tat” games with your spouse and start building your connection. If you must keep score, keep track of all the positive things your spouse has done during the day, and then thank him or her. This could even inspire your spouse to do the same for you!
- Always be honest, even if it’s hard. Honesty is always the best policy, so practice it even when it’s difficult. Infidelity doesn’t have to just happen in the bedroom; it can happen in the bank account and other areas of our lives. Regaining someone’s trust, especially a spouse’s, can be incredibly hard, so why put yourself in that position in the first place?
- Always take care of yourself. Although your spouse is supposed to love you through thick and thin regardless of how you look, it is best to take care of yourself and your appearance. You don’t have to dress to the nines every day, but make an effort. Go ahead and dress up just for your spouse every once in a while!
There’s no shortage of advice for getting the love you want, so keep your antennae up! The secret to a long and happy marriage is lots of work, so don’t give up, even if you’ve hit a few bumps in the road!
